Back to the city
Today was another trip down to Iowa City — this time for Dad’s second round of chemo.
He rode down with his sister Mary and brother-in-law Danny, who conveniently had appointments of their own. At this point, we’re joking that we might need a family punch card for all these visits!
This round looked a bit different. he received chemo today, but not immunotherapy. Overall, though, it was a really encouraging day. He showed up with good energy, his usual spunk, and a strong spirit — which never goes unnoticed.
Even better, his weight is trending up, and his labs are showing signs of stabilizing. Those are the kinds of wins we hold onto.
After his last treatment, he had some mild nausea and some pretty bad body aches, but nothing that kept him down for long. He was still able to make it to a car show by the end of the week, which felt like a big victory.
What’s next
Tomorrow, we head back down for a liver biopsy. I’ll be taking him this time. The doctors want to take a closer look at something they’ve seen. They’re not sure yet what it is or if it’s cancer, so this will help give us more answers.
On Thursday, he has an appointment at our local cancer center here in Waterloo. We’re hopeful this means we can start transitioning more of his care closer to home, which would be a huge relief for everyone.
And then — an off week next week. No chemo, no immunotherapy. Just a break.
Honestly, that feels big. Since mid-February, it feels like we’ve had something on the calendar every single week. A little pause is more than welcome.
If you feel inclined to support Dad and help ease some of the financial weight during treatment, we’ve set up a GoFundMe.
